May 21, 2019 by Ryan

Are your windows so dirty you feel self conscious when people stop by your home? Does it look like you live next to a pollen factory?

Is it blatantly obvious from the hand and nose prints that you have a toddler AND a dog? Are the birds 100% certain where the windows are at your house? Don’t worry!

Read on and you can learn how to clean your windows like a boss!  Follow this advice and the birds will be slamming into your windows again in no time. Cleaning your windows is so easy, you might want to do it everyday. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

 Get Your Supplies

First things first- gather all of your supplies for cleaning windows.

  • Bucket
  • White Vinegar
  • Dishwashing Soap
  • Sponge or Scrub Brush (a sponge works better for cleaning small windows)
  • Squeegee
  • Microfiber Towel

How to Clean the Windows

  • Mix your window cleaning solution in your bucket. Fill the bucket with warm water and add a good amount of white vinegar into the bucket- aim for about 1/4 ratio vinegar to water. Add a squirt of dishwashing liquid.
  • Dip your sponge or scrub brush into the window cleaning solution and wring out excess liquid
  • Scrub the window, being sure to get every edge and angle of each pane.
  • Squeegee:
  • Start at an upper corner of the glass, tip the squeegee so just the corner hits the glass, and wipe a thin strip from top to bottom so that it will be easier to work in horizontal strokes on the rest of the glass.
  • Keep the squeegee in contact with the glass and horizontally slide the squeegee across the top of the window starting from the corner previously cleaned.
  • Use your clean microfiber towel to wipe off the squeegee.
  • Angle the squeegee and starting a couple of inches above the next wet area to squeegee, horizontally slide the squeegee across the glass as you did previously. Angling the squeegee helps to ensure excess water trickles down the pane.
  • Continue squeegee process down the entirety of the window.
  • Dry clean window with a towel:
  • First use your towel to wipe up excess liquid at the bottom of the freshly cleaned window.
  • Then find a dry spot on your towel and wipe the perimeter of the window to remove any remaining soap suds.
  • Again use a dry part of your towel to clean any streaks.

Enjoy!

And that’s all it takes! You can use a similar method on on the inside of your windows, though you may want to use a smaller squeegee when you clean the inside of your windows. Next time your windows get a little cloudy, you will know exactly what to do. Easy, peasy, window squeegee.
